Months before my Dad passed away he wrote me and my siblings letters from the aircraft carrier he was stationed on for a month. The times when he would leave for duty were always the hardest on our family. So when the letters arrived for all of us we were extremely excited to hear from him.
That letter will forever be one of my most cherished possessions. Dad wrote it with love and encouragement. Telling me not to forget to strive for a meek and humble personality. This piece of paper with Dad's handwriting is one of the last things I have from him, and I don't want to let it go. He knew me better than most people. He knew that I would forever fight my pride and arrogance. He knew that I rely on encouragement and feed back from people. Even thought that letter was written more than 5 years ago it still serves as a reminder to me of Dad's expectations and hopes for me. And I am so thankful for it.
